Appearance: Gilderoy is tall, blond, and handsome, with bright blue eyes and a smile that could charm the pants off of, well, anyone. He dresses quite flamboyantly, and very nearly got away with his fuschia robes on the first day of third year, until a professor informed him that, no matter how fabulous he thought he was, he too would have to wear the standard black robes.
Personality: In a word: conceited. Gilderoy considers himself the greatest thing on the planet, and one must admit that he is quite great: excellent with memory charms, charming, handsome...the whole package. But, unfortunately--a bit dim. He consistently botches spells and homework assignments, but his charm allows him to skate past any obstacles. I wish I could say that there was a deeper side of Gilderoy...but there isn't. All right, so maybe there is--despite his good looks and charm, Gilderoy also has a nagging feeling of inadequacy that he feels he must combat by making up outrageous stories of his heroic deeds. Also, Gilderoy's greatest wish is to rid the world of evil and market his own line of hair-care products (though he hasn't quite realised it yet. All he knows is that there is definitely a large difference between him and his Slytherin peers.)
History: Born into a pureblood family on March 9th, 1960, Gilderoy was an only child. His parents doted on him to no end, which is exactly why he is so conceited. They instilled in him the confidence he needed to get through quite a rough first year at Hogwarts (no one really liked him, poor thing). Despite all of the doting, Gilderoy doesn't have much of a relationship with his parents, since they were the type who would leave him to be raised by his toys and contraptions as they socialised, which is why Gilderoy took up learning memory charms--you know, something to do that was actually interesting.
